The Program

The Phlebotomy Technician Training Program at Global MedPath Institute is a 4-week, 135 clock-hour career training program that prepares students for entry-level employment as certified phlebotomy technicians in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and other healthcare settings.

The program combines lecture, hands-on laboratory practice, and a clinical externship where students perform real blood draws under instructor supervision. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) examination.

The program is 4 weeks long, Monday through Friday. It consists of 135 total clock hours broken down as follows:

NHA Certification

The CPT credential is nationally recognized and is one of the most respected phlebotomy certifications in the healthcare industry. Many employers specifically require or prefer NHA-certified candidates.

To be eligible to sit for the NHA CPT examination, you must complete all of the following during the program:

  • All 135 clock hours (75 lecture, 20 laboratory, 40 externship)
  • Minimum 30 successful venipunctures (standard arm draws) with instructor sign-off
  • Minimum 10 successful capillary sticks (finger pricks) with instructor sign-off
  • Pass all four weekly knowledge assessments with a score of 70% or higher

Every draw is logged and verified in real time. You will always know exactly where you stand.

The NHA CPT certification exam costs approximately $129 and is paid directly to the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) at the time of registration. This fee is not included in GMI's tuition. Visit nhanow.com to register for your exam after graduation.

Texas does not require a state license to work as a phlebotomist, but employers strongly prefer — and many require — national certification. To become a certified phlebotomist in Texas:

  • Complete a TWC-approved phlebotomy training program (like ours) with a minimum of 135 clock hours
  • Perform a minimum of 30 successful venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks under supervision
  • Pass the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) national exam

Our 4-week program takes you from zero experience to NHA exam-ready.

Attendance & Professional Standards

This is a clock-hour program. Every hour counts. Students are expected to attend every class session. A maximum of two excused absences is allowed during the program, with proper documentation required.

Absences cannot be used during the clinical externship (PHB 112). Arriving more than 30 minutes late counts as an absence. More than two absences are grounds for dismissal from the program without a refund.

  • Name badge — worn at all times in class and at clinical sites
